Super Important Oscar Predictions from The Friendly Toast Restaurant
This is the first time we’ve ever gone on record about the Oscars, but the people have spoken and who are we to deny them? Here are some opinions you can use during dinner conversations with your friends. Just remember to say exactly this:
Best Picture: Her
We know it’s a dark horse candidate, but we’re putting our money on an upset here. Her is successfully so many things at once: a classic romance, a commentary on technology accelerating loneliness, how guys think girls are scary. Not just that, but the pastel future world Spike Jonez captures is worth the price of admission alone. It was an ambitious project, one that deserves this Oscar.
If we’re not right, remember that we specialize in breakfast.
Best Director: Alfonso Cuaron
No question the director of Gravity will carry this one. If you have any other name written down on your list of Oscar winners, cross it off. The man responsible for the mind-bendingly beautiful, lush, HUMONGOUS visuals in Gravity absolutely will win this Oscar.
You shouldn’t have to be told this by a restaurant.
Best Actor: Chiwetel Ejiofor
The star of 12 Years a Slave has some rough competition from Matthew McConaughey, star of Dallas Buyer’s Club. McConaughey has been winning everywhere else, but people really, really loved 12 Years a Slave. We think that love will carry Chiwetel Ejiofor for the win. We think it’ll take more than shedding weight and being adorable on McConaughey’s part to take this from the excellent, devastating performance by Ejiofor.
McConaughey might take it though. We’re just a restaurant. What do we know?
Best Actress: Cate Blanchett
Easy. Over easy. Her performance in Blue Jasmine towers over everything. The only reason she would ever lose out to Amy Adams here is because people don’t like endorsing Woody Allen and Amy Adams hasn’t won anything yet.
We’re pretty sure about this one.
We hope this helps you sound like an expert in front of your friends and family. If you are pressed, we suggest you have an easy escape.
